One thing I have learned the hard way is that when choosing a lawyer, you need to know what your goals and objectives are. By determining why you need the lawyer ahead of time, you can identify which Phoenix, Arizona lawyer will best suit your needs. Additionally, in the event you are in the Phoenix area, you have the option of finding a lawyer in the nearby communities of Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale, or Chandler. For those of you reading this article that live in Sierra Vista or Tucson, your options are slightly more limited as it is not always prudent to have a lawyer in Phoenix and a three hour drive to his office.
Once you have determined the purpose of your litigation, and you have developed a basic idea of what you need the outcome of your legal action to be, it is time to find legal counsel. Lawyers are no different than any other sector of the economy…there are good ones and bad ones. Ideally you should look for an attorney that has solid recommendations from people within your community (Phoenix, Tempe, Sierra Vista, etc.). You can also check with your local business bureau or the state bar to determine if there are any complaints that have been lodged against the lawyer you think you would like to retain. After having narrowed the list of potential candidates I would recommend that you arrange a face-to-face meeting to discuss the particulars of your case and determine if you will be able to work with the lawyer you have selected. Many lawyers offer a free initial consultation. The free consultation provides an excellent opportunity for you to sit down with no out of pocket expense.
Good luck with your litigation!
